Some of our readers have enquired why we have not been publishing the Southwold football reports here this season so far.
Its simple, it appears that the committee members at the Southwold club have changed this term, and they have not taken on board sending the reports accross to us. We will endeavour to keep a results ONLY posting going, unless they decide to update us with reports.

Southwold Bowlers takes 8 Wickets
A fantastic haul of 8 for 34 by David Barbrook was a career best. It seems unthinkable however to say that this was not enough, and Southwold actually lost the game.
Bawdsey made 199, however Southwold were all out 37 runs short of the Bawdsey score.

Narrow defeat for Southwold CC
Thomas Mills v Southwold
Southwold fell just short of their target of 203 at Thomas Mills despite a battling performance. Buoyed earlier in the week that they were off the bottom of the table for the first time this season, Southwold travelled with renewed optimism.
Electing to bat, Thomas Mills struggled early on, as a direct hit from Barbrook at fine leg accounted for Willis, and Cremnitz sliced one to McAlone at gully, who responded to his own shout of 'Catch it!' Heathcote chipped one to Pettman at mid-on, and Walker removed Lemare to leave the hosts on a precarious 62 for 4 after 21 overs. Skipper Joe Rusby was by now set, and he began to impose himself on the bowling, picking up the run rate with the help of Lockart. The visiting bowling and fielding began to wilt as the tempo increased. The pair put on 98 before Lockhart was deceived by Walker for 36. Rusby powered his way to an impressive century, before a smart stumping by Clifford got rid of him for 103. Walker picked up Harding's wicket late on, but Thomas Mills pushed their score up to an awkward 202 for 7 off the allotted 45 overs.
In reply, Southwold lost Porter early on, bowled by Heathcote, but Keith Pettman looked in good touch, and together with Mike Julings, they took the score steadily onwards, before Pettman fell just short of a half-century, chipping one to cover. Julings soon followed, but the visitors looked handily placed at 84 for 3 at the halfway stage. Stefan Clifford and Simon McAlone nurdled the score on to 114 before Cremnitz removed them both. The run rate began to climb, as the hosts bowled and fielded with renewed vigour. Jason Wright and David Barbrook gave Southwold some hope, as they moved the score past the 150 mark, but some suicidal running got rid of Barbrook, and with the lower order sacrificing their wickets in the pursuit of the target, Wright fought a lone stand, and he eventually perished for a handy 32, as Southwold ended 15 runs short of their target with 3 balls left.
An absorbing encounter, which once again showed that Southwold can compete with the best in the division. Southwold have a week off before resuming their relegation fight at home against Sudbourne Hall.

Cricket: Southwold v Melton St Audrys
Southwold v Melton St Audrys
Match Report
Southwold's cup interests ended for 2007 as they were edged out by a mere 7 runs in yet another close contest with Melton St Audrys. Following their third pairing in five years, the change was that Melton had to travel this time. On winning the toss, skipper Stefan Clifford inserted the visitors, and this reaped immediate effect as Andrews was bowled by the first ball of the match from a superb inswinger from Steve Hines. Adrian Smith and Shaun Draper took a little while to settle as Southwold maintained a good line and length via Hines and David Barbrook. Mick Thornton replaced Barbrook and got rid of Draper in his first over. Jackson joined Smith, who by now was well set, and the pair began to dominate the bowling, Smith moving rapidly to his half-century. Roger Middleditch then trapped Jackson in front in his first over, and Thornton did the same to Reed. Justin Cattermole joined Smith, and the pair scampered between the wickets to push up the run rate. Barbrook accounted for Cattermole and Utting, and Southall found McAlone in the deep. Adrian Smith was not to be denied and he brought up an excellent century for the visitors, crashing 13 boudaries in the process. Southwold kept on, and kept the visitors under 200, the score ending on 197 for 8 after the allotted 40 overs.
In reply, Southwold started with positive intent, as Tim Porter quickly looked to attack the bowling. Despite losing Gant, the 50 came up in the 12th over, before Porter lost his off stump to Cattermole for 37. Jason Wright and Stefan Cliford were accounted for cheaply, and it was up to Simon McAlone and Shaun Cooper to repair the damage. With selective hitting and good running, the pair brought the score up to 110 in the 26th over, but McAlone was deceived in the flight by Smith, and Cooper perished shortly after for a belligerent 44. Contributions down the order enabled Southwold to keep in touch, and with David Barbrook marshalling the tail to good effect, the equation got to a run a ball with 3 overs left. Cattermole polished off Middleditch and with 8 required off the last over, Rob Walker skied one to deep square leg, where Jackson held on to the catch, as Melton ran out narrow winners, Cattermole being the pick of the opposing bowling with 4-23. Southwold have a week off next weekend, and resume their league campaign in a fortnight, travelling to Thomas Mills.

Excellent Southwold Cricket Victory
Match Report
Southwold picked up a maximum 20 points and hauled themselves to within 3 points of safety, as they crushed Elmsett by 126 runs on a blustery day at the Common.
With only 9 men available, Elmsett elected to field, looking to exploit the damp track following yet more rain overnight. Openers Tim Porter and Keith Pettman knuckled down to their task, scoring at around 3 per over and seeing out the threat of the new ball. Having put on a half century stand, Pettman drilled one back to Steve Tampion, who took a sharp catch. Richard Holm briefly hreatened, but had his off stump clipped by Bird, who brought one back in sharply to bowl the unfortunate batsman off his pads. Skipper Stefan Clifford joined Porter, who looked on course for a half-century, but was trapped in front by Nadie Abdul. Jason Wright departed to a low return catch to Peter Tampion, and it was left to Clifford and the returning Simon MacAlone to accelerate the hosts past maximum batting points for the first time this year. Clifford notched up an excellent half-century, but then chipped one to Bird at mid-on. Shaun Cooper then carried on the good work, but lost his off stump to Tampion, and MacAlone was run out from a sharp throw from Bird for a belligerent 42. David Barbrook and Kristian Jones hit some lusty blows at the death to leave Southwold with a seasons best 227 for 7 off the allotted 45 overs.
In reply, opening bowlers Steve Hines and David Barbrook soon found a good line and length, and Barbrook got due reward for excellent swing bowling at pace as he removed danger man Abdul for 8 as he feathered one to the keeper. Jones replaced Barbrook and got Claireaux to top edge one to Hines at fine leg, who took a good running catch. When Hines got Tampion to lob one to Barbrook at deep mid off, the game was up for Elmsett, and it was more a case of whether Southwold could bowl them out for maximum points. Daniels put up some stiff resistance, but lost Bird to another catch by Hines at gully off Barbrook. As the score inched along, Southwold were wondering whether they would rue a number of spilled chances in the field, but Richard Holm ended Daniels' vigil by clean bowling him for 40. He followed this up by removing Brown, and with Keith Pettman making a rare bowling appearance, Southwold hunted down the tail end batsmen. 2 smart stumpings by skipper Stefan Clifford off the returning Hines ended the match in the 42nd over, with Elmsett all out for a meagre 101, leaving Southwold to celebrate their third consecutive home win.
Southwold turn their attentions to the John Bright Memorial Plate next week as they host Melton St Audrys in the quarter-final on Sunday.
